We Agree, Commish!

An article in the Kennebec Journal ("A model for school consolidation") has Education Commissioner Susan Gendron singing the praises of the effort made by Winthrop, Maranacook Area Schools, and Fayette to keep their communities informed of the issues they face in attempting to consolidate.

The vehicle for this effort is a consolidated newsletter,
Ramblin' Chalkboard. Click on the link and take a look. The Commissioner's impressed, we're impressed, and we think you will be too.

Here's Maranacook superintendent Rich Abramson:

The three superintendents agreed that we needed to get objective information in the hands of all of our voters as we look at consolidation. The fact is that we already had a pretty well respected vehicle to do that.

But someone there came up with the idea and pushed it through!

And here's Harvey Hayden, the facilitator:

We had to be very careful that people didn't see this as a publicity piece. We wanted it to be objective, well-written, with lots of very valuable information.

Smart honest Maine people.

Ramble on!
