That Darn Cat!

The cat's been peeping out of the bag for a little while. Yesterday she stuck a paw out.

You'll see in today's Bangor Daily News that the new new "consolidation" plan is beginning to take shape. (Exhaustion sometimes yields consensus.) Here's a link to the BDN article at our "Articles" site (your news digest for education news!) .

Below are excerpts from a document that emerged from this committee last Wednesday.

Here's the July 1, 2008 deadline:



Here's the 2500-student minimum:


Here's the 80-district maximum:


Here's a June 1, 2007 (!) deadline for the Commissioner to create a not-less-than 2500-student/not-more-than 80-district plan.

No students or teachers may be displaced, and no schools may be closed during the 2007-2008 year.

The new districts must bring in a budget at least 5% less than the projected combined budgets of their constituent parts.
