Library Forum: More Questions

Despite the best efforts of the Superintendent and the Board members present to minimize the obvious, there was no ignoring the fact that answers were in short supply last night.

About 30 people gathered last night for a discussion that was less stilted, more wide-ranging, and more pointed -- while remaining civil -- than the previous two District-sponsored informational meetings.

A number of money-related issues arose, and were left hanging:

  • What would it cost to add playing fields to the present site?
  • Will the "looped" water system end up being a local expense?
  • What is the expense of building a barn for the landowner (part of the purchase option agreement)?
The District position on whether the upper portion of the Fern Road should be improved seems to be that if people use it to get to the school, that's their business.

Also left unanswered was the question of whether tomorrow's straw vote will be by show of hands or secret ballot: "We'll adhere to the wishes of the people there."

There hasn't been much public notice of the "Straw Vote", and at the previous hearing the process of the voting was described by the Board Chairman as a show of hands. Hopefully that won't keep people from attending and voting privately on this project site.

Nothing was delivered
And I tell this truth to you,
Not out of spite or anger
But simply because it's true.
