Great Minds Think Alike!

The School Union 98 School Committee is meeting on Monday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. in the MDIHS library to discuss the ramifications of Gov. Baldacci'’s school consolidation plan. Superintendent Rob Liebow said the public is encouraged to attend, and invitations have been extended to all area legislators. Bar Harbor Times, January 16*
A legislator plans two public forums involving parts of Penobscot and Hancock counties that would be affected by Gov. John Baldacci'’s proposal to consolidate Maine school systems into 26 administrative units. Sen. Richard Rosen, R-Bucksport, will host the forums for residents within his district:— one on Wednesday at the Brewer Auditorium and the other on Thursday at the Alamo Theatre in Bucksport. Sen. Carol Weston, R-Montville, wants to hear from her constituents about what is shaping up to be the central issue of the legislative session: Gov. John Baldacci's proposal to merge 290 school districts into 26. Weston, who served four years on the Legislature's Education Committee and is now Republican leader in the Senate, is hosting a meeting 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at Troy Howard Middle School to take public comments on the consolidation plan. I wonder if we might have one of these hearings? If for nothing else, at least to prove we can hold more than one idea in our minds at one time!

It would be even nicer if we told the public about the meeting before it's held!
