Special Meeting Next Week

From the agenda:
A. Reorganization Plan
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of Directors authorize
the Superintendent of Schools to submit the reorganization
plan in compliance with the reorganization law
Earlier, there was a public hearing spoken of, to be held before the December 1 deadline for submission of plans.

It looks like that isn't happening.

The RPC has, at least lately, met in public. Those most recent meetings, the ones with SAD 4, Willimantic, and Harmony, were announced on the District web site. They've been working meetings though, and hardly had as a purpose the solicitation of opinions from the larger public.

The vote is set for next Thursday at 7 pm, Dexter Regional High School ATM Room.

Addendum:
REGIONAL PLANNING COMMITTEE PRESENTATION
Thursday, November 29, 2007 – 6:30 PM
Dexter Regional High School Cafeteria

Why isn't SAD 68 included in the consolidation being considered? Are we afraid that including them will give parents an argument for school choice?
I hope that one of our representatives will be willing to tell us the reason.
Does anyone out there know the answer?

It was reported in the Bangor Daily in January that, when asked about school choice within an RSU by a school board member from SAD 64, both Baldacci and Gendron stated that school choice within an RSU was not an option. I guess they don't want citizens to HAVE choice of schools within an RSU.

As a parent of upcoming high-schoolers I hope that changes will take place in the law to allow school choice for high school. If competition works in other facets of life, why not allow it for schools?
