Sooner or Later We'll Consolidate!
On Monday evening the local RPC (those nice folks who are leading the local consolidation effort) threw up their hands and went home.
In a sparsely-attended* meeting lasting just 40 minutes, those present decided to call the whole thing off, at least until things become a little clearer in Augusta. The promptly-produced minutes (Thanks!) are here.
As far as we can tell, and as reported here in recent posts, here's the status of the law:
Today, Wednesday, has been the legislature's target for an adjournment date.
We still are going to have to do our homework!

As far as we can tell, and as reported here in recent posts, here's the status of the law:
- An effort at significant reform of the consolidation law, the so-called "superunion" bill, passed both houses and was then vetoed by the Governor. The Senate then voted not to override.
- The House voted to repeal the entire law, but by a margin that would not be sufficient to override. In any case, the Senate has not taken up this repeal bill. If they do not, the measure dies.
- The Governor's more modest bill containing technical reforms to the law has not been taken up.
Today, Wednesday, has been the legislature's target for an adjournment date.
We still are going to have to do our homework!
