Coffee Talk: Working On a Building!
It's a gorgeous morning, isn't it? Makes me feel like maybe this world isn't such an awful place after all! Just kidding... I have been feeling kind of gospelly, if that's a word.
Have a cup? It's not that good, but it sure is strong!
You know that old song "Working on a Building"?
I've heard some things about that new school project. The push is on. They want to get the site approved by the State Board in early August [August 9 -- ed.]. I honestly don't see how they're going to have a very thorough process if they're engaging with the public for only one month, more or less.
First they've got to have a budget passed, and that's not going to happen 'til late June. If they annoy people in the course of doing that, it's going to be harder to get a positive "straw" vote in July.
Just like most people, I think there's some kind of a new school building needed, but as that short guy with the ears sticking out* said, "the Devil is in the details." When you think over all the questions that people have: what grades?; close the small schools -- the ones that are growing?; why on that site and not somewhere else?; even "Why not on the Hill?" -- that question hasn't necessarily been answered to everyone's satisfaction...Anyway, there sure are a lot of "details!"

Well if I was a drunkard, I tell you what I would doIt's all about dedicating one's life and work to the Lord, turning away from Satan. I'm not really terribly religious, I guess, but on such a clean and clear morning, I sure do feel like doing things right.
I'd quit my drinking and work on a building too

Now this is just hear say but I heard that one of the architects had proposed a way of reusing the existing site and making it fit the states guidelines for funding. But this architect was not selected? I wonder why?
I will tell you why. That architect was if a school of the needed size "could" fit on the existing site. And the answer was yes, it could. But with all of the other issues involved, it was decided that the hilltop was not the best choice.
By the way, that discussion took place way back in the early 90's, before the current project was even considered.
The architect selection process had its own criteria and the current list of sites did as well. The hilltop did not make the top 5 selections.
Just more old dirt by some folks that actually voted for the current sites and proposal.
Just reading old comments..... No wonder the "people" are afraid to voice their opinions and thoughts. Look at the feedback they get when they do? The professionals should "stay professional" in their responses!
