Garland Meeting: More Questions!

Last evening, six School Board members and the Superintendent discussed, with Garland Selectpersons and members of the Town's Finance Committee, plans for the ultimate disposition of the Garland Elementary School, upon completion of the proposed new K-8 school in Dexter. Although it was not publicized by the District -- indeed the meeting was publicized only here on this site and in the Garland Town office -- the meeting was attended by a dozen interested citizens as well.

There were some very interesting questions which probed the concept plan as well as the site and referendum planning. The questioning was more pointed than that of the previously held sessions, and in the end the conversation led to even more questions.

Citizens expressed significant interest in moving the date of the referendum to June -- for a variety of reasons. We can hope that the Superintendent was sincere when he said that he will try to get the State DOE to allow a June referendum vote.

The conversation continued after the school officials left. Many noted that when questions were asked about the concept plan voting being scheduled during the busy holiday season, the response was something like "The State is making us do it this way." At other times the Board seemed to take credit for the decisions leading to a February 28, 2007 referendum vote.

Notably, citizens present asked the Selectpersons to petition the State for a June vote.

The concept plan meeting scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday) in Exeter is looking more interesting by the minute!

At last night's meeting in Garland there was discussion about the return of the school to the Town if a new Dexter school is built. WIll the District sell the Superintendent's office on the market and use the proceeds for reducing the local assessments to the District communities?
Also, there was a question about the money already spent on the new school project(almost $400,000) and what would be done with the reimbursed money if it passes. Mr. Jordan said that "it would be spent for educational purposes."
What's that supposed to mean?
Why not return the money to the towns by lowering the future assessments?

I'm not saying that I was at the Garland meeting last night, but I'm not saying that I wasn't either. If I was there I might have said something nice about this needed project. Maybe I didn't.

I don't remember you saying anything at the meeting, if I was there. Maybe you said something and I wasn't there.

Maybe I'll be at the Exeter meeting too, but you'll never be able to tell because I am anonymous.

What a chicken livered person this anonymous person is!

No wonder we have troubles making decisions in this district.

The scariest part about it is the likelyhood that one or more or these anonymous commenters are school board members.
