Time Keeps On Slipping Into The Future
As of this morning, there have been no publicly-visible evidences of any activity on the part of SAD #46 to find a partner for State-mandated consolidation with one or more neighboring districts.
At the same time. it's reasonable to expect that in fact there is some sort of behind-the-scenes activity. Earlier, for instance, a possible consolidation with SAD #64 (Corinth) was mooted.
But for the average citizen, there is only silence. A newspaper reader will find articles nearly every day reporting on activities of many other districts. From our district, nothing. Maybe we're expected to call the central office daily for further information.
We've discussed this issue recently (here). After writing about it then -- 13 days ago -- we let it lie, hoping that the local discussion would begin soon.
You'll scan the District's web pages in vain for any news on proposals, the formation of a Reorganization Planning Committees, public forums, and so on. It's a good thing that you bookmarked that webpage so you can check often to receive the latest information!
The proposed partner is to be named by August 31. The Board meets next on August 22. Maybe the secret choice will be revealed then. What are the chances?
What chance have you had to consider and discuss this issue? How will your children, grandchildren, property valuation, taxes, and future be affected? Perhaps of even greater importance to the Superintendent, how can his job be protected?
Here's how it will go: "Any objections? Sorry! We've run out of time."
Is this democracy in action?
Please say it ain't so!
