A Snorer in the Old Cafeteria!

There was a minimal turnout -- 5 Board members, 5 administrators and staff, 6 citizens -- as might have been expected from the minimal pre-meeting publicity effort. Of those present, 3 were members of the (twelve-member) Reorganization Planning Committee.*

A great deal of the presentation and discussion dwelt on the inequity and unfairness and ineffectiveness of the reorganization law, and the prospect of somehow reversing or altering the present course. It was a dismal exercise that allowed for a fair amount of posturing, but ultimately left one disappointed, as is always the case with impotent displays.

We learned little about the ongoing talks with neighboring districts, except that "we're talking with everybody."

Some will point to this meeting as evidence that the public isn't interested in these issues. More accurately, one might say that the public is convinced that a change is going to come and that it can't come fast enough! Citizens didn't need to attend this meeting to see that the old order is collapsing.

Those who came to the meeting not expecting much were not disappointed.

* Members of the SAD 46 Reorganization Planning Committee are: Steve Foster, Fred Sherburne, Al Ross, Steve Crane, Jim Crane, Julie Wilcox, Shawn Lancaster, Steve Gudroe, Peter Devine, John Parola, Andy Seavey, Rodney Farrar
