It's Town Meeting Time

The towns of Garland, Exeter, and Ripley are preparing the final warrants for their annual town meetings. Candidates are being lined up for possible service to their communities. The offices of Selectman, Assessor, Overseer of the Poor, and other municipal positions will be filled by the voters at those meetings.

The average annual Garland town meeting begins at 10.00 a.m. and adjourns by 3.00 p.m. It's a great opportunity for townspeople to gather to renew acquaintances, visit with neighbors, eat a friendly lunch together, and take care of another year's business.

The voters will take care of articles including the annual budgets for the town's administration, public safety, highways, roads and bridges, cemeteries, recreation, and general public responsibilities. Nobody has ever dared accuse the people of not being able to take on more than one important issue at a time at a Town meeting.

Why then insult the voters by denying them the opportunity to decide the fate of the new school project at the already-required June referendum?

Are the Directors unwilling to give the voters the credit they deserve for being able to sort out what they want? A June vote would express to the voters that the District has faith in the public, as well as faith in its proposal.

At this years' Garland town meeting, voters will also elect one school board Director. Has your Director represented your values or is it time for change? Now is the time for you to line up your own candidate, or to consider the opportunity to serve.

With talk of consolidation and the apparent upcoming closure of the Garland Elementary School, how will Garland identify with the new school?

Will the school that your child attends be YOUR school? Do you feel like you are "the heart of the school"?
